Weiser-Kunstler, Riesling Gaispfad Auslese, 2019 (375ml)
A sweet wine with a cacophony of flavors: smokey, honeyed-peach, pineapple, almond cream, orange blossom, tangerine, candied grapefruit, violet, and pistachio. Weiser-Künstler from the dynamic couple, Konstantin Weiser and Alexandria Künstler, only started their project in 2005, is a new name by Mosel standards, but were immediately recognized as something spectacular. This wine is from un-grafted, 100+ years-old wines, perch precariously on old-fashioned stone terraced, overhanging the river below, farmed with organic and biodynamic methods, another throwback to simpler, pre-industrial times. Well farmed grapes on amazing sites don't always translate to the glass, here they do. Wine making is never by rote, each site, each vintage, each barrel, is made with thoughtful intention, to coax the very best into the bottle.
