Johannes Geil farms 30 hectares of Riesling and many forgotten varieties, including this one, Rieslaner, a very high acid, textural cross of Riesling and Silvaner, in the village of Bechtheim in Rheinhessen. His ancestors were some of the very first to cultivate and bottle wine here and plantings in Bechtheim were recognized as superior in the tax maps of 1780. Yields are lower than the regional average and with a continuous effort of fine tuning every aspect of the operation, every vintage.
